Congratulations Aileen Johnson
2009 Ventura County 99s Woman Pilot of the Year

It didn’t take long for us to come up with this year’s Woman Pilot of the Year. This dear lady is respected by all and is truly a pillar of our Ventura County Chapter. As soon as she joined our group, she jumped right in, helping at the Air Show, organizing Treats to the Towers, and helping out behind the scenes in our fund raising activities. In addition to those demanding activities, she is the one who writes and submits articles about our Chapter’s activities for The Southwesterly. She has set a high standard for volunteer work in the Ventura County Ninety-Nines’ Chapter.

In fact, there have been many organizational improvements which you may not realize were due to this woman’s talent for both organization and diplomacy. Her business acumen has helped evaluate and redesign the Silent Auction and Raffle. She helped us acquire and make use of our credit card reader, improving our income from our air show events, the Governor’s Tea, and also the Annual Pilot Proficiency Classes.

When it comes to solving a problem with a petulant customer, she is a master diplomat. Her face and manner remain calm through the most difficult situations, when a lesser woman’s ire would show. She consistently exhibits calm and reserve in the face of daunting frustration and exhaustion. Quiet and unassuming, her subtle sense of humor will sneak up on you.

Her inner calm must be a great asset in the cockpit. Most of us have been spared the experience of flying without an engine, but this lady is not afraid to fly without one; she actually learned to fly in a glider! She now enjoys flying a Piper Arrow with her husband. The wonderful 49.5 she brought to us has also contributed a huge amount of behind-the-scenes help himself!

We are indeed fortunate to have both of these great folks among us. If you haven’t guessed who our 2009 Woman Pilot of the Year is yet, please join us in giving a big hand to AILEEN JOHNSON!
